We are pleased to introduce Country Lane Olive Oil, produced by Arlene and Michael Bernstein, long time friends of the Coppolas. The Bernsteins founded Mount Veeder Winery in the Napa Valley. They sold the winery in the early eighties and went on a series of trips that took them around the globe. When they returned they purchased a new property and pondered what to do with the land. Eventually they decided to turn from grapes to olives:

“We love olive trees, enjoyed visiting them in all the places of the world they thrive. They are green the year round, and the process of making oil is instant gratification…pick in the morning, press in the afternoon, dip the bread in the oil for dinner that night.”

The oil is made with a blend of Spanish and Italian olives and was cold-pressed in November of last year. Their Tuscan-style oil boasts an intense aroma, fruity flavors, and a peppery finish. Arlene provided the following recommendations for enjoying her olive oil:

“One of our favorite uses of the oil is on salads, with a minimum of vinegar so that the flavor of the oil is a real participant. It’s great to dip bread into, and it’s a wonderful finish to pasta and risotto dishes, vegetables, and fish--just drizzled over before serving.”

2007 Estate Olive Oil -- When Gustave Niebaum built Rubicon Estate he also left another legacy besides great vineyards - hundreds of olive trees to produce a superior olive from tiny, oil rich fruit. The type is called Redding Picholine and we share this clone with only one other estate in the world, whose oil has gained a reputation as the finest in California.
